Through the Looking Glass 2.0

Independent / The Warehouse, Accra

Curated and produced at The Warehouse in Accra, Through the Looking Glass 2.0 was an augmented reality-powered art exhibition featuring six contemporary Ghanaian artists. Visitors used smartphones to interact with physical artworks through AR overlays — transforming static pieces into living, dynamic experiences.

The Challenge

How do you make contemporary African art more accessible, more interactive, and more resonant with younger, tech-native audiences — without diminishing the integrity of the artists' work?

Our Approach

Each artwork was paired with a bespoke AR layer designed in collaboration with the exhibiting artist. The AR activations ranged from animated extensions of the physical piece to embedded audio narratives. The experience was framed as "a metaphor for curiosity towards the evolution of African art."

The Outcome

The exhibition was received as a landmark moment in Ghana's new media art scene, and established Brainwave's curatorial voice at the intersection of African contemporary art and immersive technology.
